Why High Vacuum Creates a Heat Management Challenge

As operating conditions become more demanding, managing blower temperature becomes increasingly important.

Traditional system designs may use additional oil or water-cooling equipment to manage the heat associated with high-vacuum operation. Those components can add another system that needs to be installed and maintained on the truck.

Hibon approaches the problem differently.

For truck builders and fleet operators, this addresses two challenges at once: achieving the required vacuum while reducing the need for additional blower cooling equipment.

More Airflow Isn’t Always the Answer

When comparing vacuum blowers, maximum CFM is an easy specification to focus on.

But the largest blower isn’t automatically the best solution.

A blower needs to deliver the required airflow at the vacuum level where the truck actually operates. Available horsepower, operating speed, duty cycle and system design also affect the selection.

The SIAV 840 provides volume displacement up to 4,000 CFM at maximum speed, with published performance information across vacuum levels from 6 to 28 inHg.

That performance data allows system designers to look beyond a maximum CFM figure and evaluate how the blower performs under the actual vacuum conditions expected in the field.

When the Job Demands High Vacuum, Durability Matters Too

High-vacuum capability has limited value if the blower cannot withstand the mechanical demands of the application.

The SIAV/H design addresses this with heavy-duty internal construction, including heavy-duty bearing holders, five bearings, helical gears, high-tensile steel shafts and a four-piston-ring sealing arrangement.

The lubrication system also incorporates oil passages, an oil thrower and larger oil sumps to support bearing lubrication.

For fleets operating equipment repeatedly throughout the workweek, these details matter because blower performance and mechanical durability have to work together.

Making High Vacuum Easier to Integrate

Truck builders have another problem to solve: where everything goes. Available chassis space, shaft location, drivetrain configuration and service access can all affect blower installation.

The SIAV/H platform supports multiple drive arrangements, including PTO, hydraulic, V-belt, electric and diesel options, along with different blower configurations. This gives equipment builders greater flexibility to design the blower around the truck’s requirements instead of forcing every installation into the same arrangement.

Where Does a 4,000 CFM High-Vacuum Blower Make Sense?

The SIAV 840 provides displacement up to approximately 4,000 CFM at maximum speed. Hibon’s larger SIAV/H 8702 and SIAV/H 8902 models extend that capacity to approximately 5,250 and 6,600 CFM respectively.

Choosing between them should not be about selecting the largest number.

For an application where the required operating point falls within the SIAV 840’s performance range, moving to a larger blower simply because it has greater maximum displacement may not be necessary.
